11/19/2010

On November 2nd, I went in to the hospital to have labor induced. After 13 hours of labor, Logan Brendan Pyle was born at 9:01 p.m. ! He weighed 6 lbs 8 oz and was 20 inches long and in perfect health. My fiance & I are thrilled with him!

He hasn’t met the Siberians yet, but I’m sure they will be very excited to have a new little baby to play with in the spring!

10/18/2010

Hello!

It’s been a few months since I updated this blog, so just thought I’d drop in another post before Logan is born!

My eye has healed wonderfully from the surgery. Just had an appointment last week, and the fluid is going away. The gas bubble they placed in my eye has dissipated and the retina is holding just fine. They said I shouldn’t have any more trouble with it, other than the fact that I do need to have another eye exam and get a new prescription for my glasses/contacts.   Apparently, when they place the band around your eye, it changes the shape a bit, in order to hold the retina back to where it’s supposed to be. This also changes your vision, making it worse.  But all in all, a bit of blurriness is nothing compared to being blind!

I would like to thank those who understood that updated photos of their puppies would be late due to the major surgery I went through in the middle of August. Once again, your understanding and patience is greatly appreciated, as well as all the wonderful e-mails and get well wishes I received! =)

I almost hate to say it, but I’m going to be asking the same very soon.  Logan is due any day now, as my doctors have moved up my due date. For those of you who have puppies on hold at this time, I am sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. I will still be taking updated photos until he is born, however afterwards it may be a few weeks until I can get new photos. I’m hoping that everyone understands!  All the Siberians are getting very excited, they cannot wait to have another little boy to play with them!

We passed our kennel inspection with flying colors, as always, a few weeks ago. The leaves are turning now and we’re heading into winter, and the Siberians know it! They are very excited to see snow again, although I hope this winter is not as bad as last winter!

Will write again with specifics when Logan is born!  Feel free to stay up to date with our website, www.lauradalessiberians.com

08/21/2010

This past week has been very eventful! I won’t be able to take any updated photos of our puppies for a week or so due to these events. I hope you understand after you read.

About 2 weeks ago, I noticed my vision was getting blurry in my left eye. It developed into a blind spot, which kept getting worse over time. I was able to make an appointment with my Optometrist on Monday. They did some field vision tests on me, and the results were so bad on my left eye that they thought the machine had messed up and redid the test. They were uneasy when it came out the same. I definitely had a blind spot, covering more than 1/4 of my vision in my eye. From there, I was sent to another Optometrist to redo the test and get a better idea of what was wrong. After about an hour, I was told that I had a detached retina, and if I left it untreated it would cause permanent blindness in my left eye.  They told me I would need surgery, but they weren’t sure if I could have the surgery because I am 7 months pregnant. They also said waiting 2 months wasn’t an option if I wanted to keep my vision. They called and made an appointment to send me to a specialist in Pittsburgh that evening.

My fiance & I went to Pittsburgh to do more tests. I was finally able to speak with a surgeon.  She called my OBGYN and consulted with him, and scheduled my surgery for the next morning to re-attach my retina. Brendan & I came home and packed for the hospital and were up at 3:00 Wednesday to make it to my appointment at 9:00. I was told to be there 3 hours early so that I could be prepped for the surgery.

When the nurse took me back to get ready, the anesthesiologist was there to talk with me. She said that they could either put me out for the surgery , or keep me awake for it. She also said that it would be much better for Logan (my baby) if I was able to stay awake for it. This would mean holding perfectly still for 2 hours while surgery was performed on my eye. I decided to do what was best for Logan, and stay awake, which was what she advised as well.

My surgeon arrived a few minutes later and we were ready to get started.  I was taken back to the operating room. Keep in mind, I chose to be fully awake for this operation. They injected my eye with some numbing medicine. A small incision was made in my eye in order to get a tube down in to the retina. From this tube, a gas bubble was injected into my eye to freeze the retina and push it back into place. A rubber band was placed around my eye as well, which I am told will be staying there for the rest of my life. Four stitches were needed to close my eyeball up.

About an hour into the surgery, I started panicking, because the numbing medicine wasn’t working. Not sure if maybe I’m just immune to the type they used, but I could feel every cut, stitch, and needle jab. I was panicking because I wasn’t sure I could stand another hour of this. The  anesthesiologist managed to calm me down after a few minutes so they could proceed with the surgery, and I just had to suck it up and wait for the pain to end. I ended up having a conversation with her for the whole 2 hours in order to avoid focusing on what was going on. When I focused, it was possible to see the needles, microscopes and other instruments they were using on my eye, and that was not something that I wanted to do. Ha.

After they finished stitching my eyeball up, they put a gauze patch over it and took me to recovery, where I stayed while they gave my fiance instructions on how to take care of me. From there, we went and checked into our hotel room and I stayed in bed for the day. When I needed to get up, he had to lead me around. Thursday morning I had to go back to get the patch removed and instructions on when to take my medicated eye drops, then we came home.

I have an appointment this coming Friday to have it checked again. For now I’ve just been told to rest so that I can heal.

07/22/2010

Good Morning!   Our website is FINALLY working again!  (www.lauradalessiberians.com) You can now see our available puppies as well as upcoming litters or planned breedings.

Logan is doing well. I am now 6 months, getting very close to being in the 3rd and final tri-mester. The Siberians simply cannot wait to have another child to play and snuggle with!  Went shopping yesterday. I think Logan officially has more clothing than I do now! Ha ha.

All is going well with our family, both human and furry. We have been having days in the 90′s for the past few weeks, and I suspect the Siberians are all wishing it was still winter! They’re keeping cool with the help of their ceiling fans though!

Must go for now, still have some things to get done!

06/18/2010

Hello all,

Our website (www.lauradalessiberians.com) still isn’t working. No one has been able to figure out what’s wrong yet. Our web hoster finally did some troubleshooting and informed me that the problem is with my program, so now I need to make an appointment to take the computer in to get that fixed so I can get the website back up and running. Until then, we do have a few very nice puppies available, so feel free to e-mail me and inquire about them. Our contact information page is up to date. :-)

We brought Mystic our of retirement for one final litter with Tallie. The pair gave us 6 absolutely beautiful puppies. There was only one female, and she is staying here with us. Her name is Mystique. She has her sire’s personality and build, and we are very excited to watch her grow!

All is going well with my pregnancy. My fiance and I had an appointment on the 16th for another ultrasound to find out what we are having. It turns out we are expecting a son, Logan Brendan Pyle. We cannot wait to meet him, just 20 more weeks!

I graduated from the Pennsylvania Cyber School on May 21st, 2010. So I am finally done with school work! More time to spend with the Siberians!

It is getting a little harder for me to take updated puppy pictures, so if they do not hit the 2 week mark exactly as I usually do, I apologize. I’m sure my promptness won’t get much better once Logan is born, but I will be trying my best.

Misty, my Tennessee Walking Horse mare, had her foal on May 6th.  Her name is Dynasty. She’s a beautiful girl, with such a sweet personality. We will be keeping her and adding her to our “herd”. Ha.

03/30/2010

Well, my last post was about 6 weeks ago, and much has happened since then!

My fiance & I have decided to start our family early, and I just found out I was pregnant the beginning of the month. We are both very excited to welcome our first child. I am due on November 7th.

On March 17th, we passed our spring kennel inspection with flying colors, as always. Our dog warden continues to be impressed with the cleanliness of our kennel, as well as the health, temperament, and quality of our Siberians.

On the evening of the 17th we had an ER scare, and Brendan rushed me to the hospital. The doctors thought I could be miscarrying. Luckily, the baby and I are ok, but I have been ordered to take it easy and rest as often as possible. Because of this, I may not be able to answer each e-mail with the promptness I usually do, which I apologize for.

The snow has finally melted here, even though it took quite a while. We ended up blocking the doggy doors so that our Siberians had to stay inside. This was because the snow got so high outside that they were able to literally walk out over the 6 foot high fence. Of course, they still received regular exercise until the snow melted and we were able to shovel it out.  Our female, Cutie, was especially naughty, and jumped her fence before the snow as very high. Luckily, she wasn’t able to jump the fence on the security area, so she is still here, happy and healthy and as playful as ever.

One final note: The last week or so our website has not been working properly. Although I have been updating it, the changes are not going through. I am working on this, and hope to have it up and running again very soon!

02/12/2010

Have not had much time to get to the computer, or would have posted this update much sooner! However, we have been visiting family members, and I just haven’t had the time. Sorry if any e-mails went unanswered!

On Wednesday, February 10th, 2010, my boyfriend of 3 years, Brendan Pyle, proposed to me!  We decided on a date: May 14th, 2011. (15 months to plan!) I am so truly happy, and so thankful that I have found someone who loves our Siberians just as much as I do.

02/10/2010

Well, another winter storm has hit our area. So far we have about a foot of snow, which doesn’t sound too bad I suppose. But, on top of the 3 – 4 feet we already had, with 40 – 50 mph winds, its a very bad thing. The government has declared a state of emergency in Pennsylvania. Everything is closed, and we have been ordered to stay off the roads unless we absolutely have to be on them.  Looks like we aren’t going anywhere for a while!

The Siberians are all staying warm inside and waiting until the wind stops to go play in the new snow!

02/06/2010

Well, in 12 hours we managed to get a TON of snow. Literally.  Below are some photos taken early this morning, around 8:00 a.m. The drifts are 3 feet IN THE LOW SPOTS. The higher ones are up to our shoulders.

The Siberians have made a “path” in their outside runs. This will be shown in a photo below. Its hard to believe that in just one night (not even 24 hours, but from evening until morning) we received so much snow. Our vehicles have become completely snowed in, the drifts have covered my 500cc 4-wheeler, which is lifted and sits up higher than most.

Must go for now, we have some major shovelling to do! Hope all of you reading this are warm!

Sincerely,

Laura Barron

Well, I did say I would write more often, so here I am!   We are preparing for a storm here, supposed to get around 2 feet of snow overnight. Yikes!

Was surfing the web the other day and came across an article I thought would be helpful. I know sometimes it can be hard to choose the perfect name for your new puppy, so below is a link to a list of names. Most webpages do not offer a specialized lists for each breed, but this one does, and many of the names are perfect for a fluffy Siberian friend.

      Hope this helps!
